Crochet is a centuries old craft that takes its name from the French word "croq", which means hook. Crochet, a fun and relaxing hobby, is easy to learn. Using this popular needlecraft, you can create beautiful fashion and home decor projects such as tops, hats, ponchos, scarves, doilies, tablecloths and bedspreads as well as a myriad of adorable items just for babies.

Only two basic supplies---a hook and a ball of thread or yarn---are needed to crochet. All crochet stitches are a series of loops and wraps of thread around the hook. Every pattern starts with a slip knot followed by a series of loops called chains.  All stitches are variations of the basic single crochet which is very easy to master.
